Microfilm and Microfiche

Many offices and institutions have microfilm and fiche libraries that are decades old. The film may have been stored improperly or used so much that it becomes damaged. Deterioration and damage to microfilm can be irreversible or very costly to repair. Don’t risk losing your documents to the ravages of time or overuse. ScanSmart can take your microfilm or microfiche and convert it to stable, searchable, digital TIFF or PDF files.

Once in digital form, the microfilm images can be incorporated into your existing electronic documents for drastically improved accessibility. Additionally, your images will now be much more secure once you include them into your back-up procedures. Disaster recovery planning for these records goes from nearly impossible to done.

What is Microfilm?

Microfilm is a long strip of processed micro images on a reel or in a cartridge. Jacketed Microfiche is a short strip of microfilm that is stored in a casing. Microfilm can come in two widths (16mm and 35mm) and can either be stored on a reel or in a cartridge. Cartridges are used to simplify insertion of the film into a reader or a retrieval device.
