The Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) is a standard in document imaging and document management systems. TIFF format supports multiple pages; therefore multi-page documents can be saved as single TIFF files rather than as a series of files for each scanned page, as in the JPEG format. The only limitation to the number of pages in a TIFF file is the maximum size of any TIFF, which is 4 gigabytes (GB). Considering that the average 8 1/2” x 11” page scanned in black and white at 200 dpi (dots per inch resolution) is 30 KB, the maximum number of pages in a TIFF file is therefore 133,333 pages. This is normally not a limiting factor in document management projects.
